Alexander Grabowski, a Pole, and Friedrich Lindner, a German, were sentenced to death today for war crimes in the Czarkow and Biezarnow slave labor camps, respectively. Witnesses at the trials of both men described them as “brutal sadists” who took an active part in the executions of hundreds of Jews.
Meanwhile, Cracow’s highest tribunal has begun to try Joseph Bushier, civilian head of the German military government during the war, on charges of responsibility for the murder of 2,500,000 Polish Jews and 1,500,000 Poles. Bushier is also charged with signing the orders for the mass annihilation of Poland’s Jews. The defendant has pleaded not guilty.
