Reports that the Wilno, Poland, authorities intend to convert the Jewish cemetery there into a children’s playground were denied by Polish Ambassador Stanislaw Patek in a letter to Cyrus Adler, president of the American Jewish Committee, made public yesterday.
Dr. Adler had written to the Ambassador in Washington stating that “if these reports are true and if the decision of the Wilno authorities is definite, it is great cause for great distress and concern, because it would appear to indicate a disregard for the most sacred traditions of our brethren in Poland.”
