The “Council for the Rescue of Polish Jews,” which was established by the Polish Government-in-Exile several months ago, has been removed from the jurisdiction of the Government’s Ministry of the Interior because the present Minister and his deputy are members of the anti-Semitic Endek Party.
Following a protest by Emanuel Szerer, Jewish Socialist deputy, the council has been placed under the direct supervision of Premier Tomasz Archiszewski, Mr. Szerer pointed out that at the time the body was established the Jewish Socialist Bund declared that it would not participate in its activities if Endek representatives were included on it.
Meanwhile, Endek deputies in the Polish National Council, the parliament of the Government-in-Exile, today attempted to exclude certain categories of Polish Jews in Belgium from benefitting from the relief activities of the Government. During discussion of the 1945 budget of the Government, the Endek deputies moved to restrict relief for Polish Jews in Belgium to those who were war refugees, excluding others who emigrated to Belgium before the war, and who were denaturalized by the pre-war government. Their motion was defeated.
