Victory for the democracies will “breakdown the walls of the ghettos and end legal discrimination against Polish citizens of the Jewish faith,” declares the current issue of the “Polish Fortnightly Review,” official press bulletin of the Polish Ministry of Information, appearing today. The entire issue is devoted to articles dealing with the legal position of Jews in Poland from the beginning of Jewish life there up until the present day.
Publication of this special Jewish issue of the press bulletin is welcomed in Polish-Jewish circles here as a symptom of the growing realization of the indivisibility of the struggle for a free Poland and for Jewish liberation. The same circles, feel, there is an obvious effort to whitewash the anti-Semitic regime of pre-war Poland, by mentioning the legal rights that Jews held there, but neglecting to point out the constant violation of both the spirit and letter of the Constitution. The bulletin does not mention the systematic elimination of Jews from pre-war Polish economic life, the introduction of ghetto benches in the schools and universities, and encouraging of anti-Semitic excesses and other similar acts.
