The Polish Government-in-exile today reserved the right to claim reparation “at the opportune moment” for damage inflicted by the present rulers of Poland and for all belongings of the Government and Polish individuals taken out of the country.
Sale of illegally confiscated objects “could not create for the buyer any right to objects acquired through pillage,” the Polish Charge d’Affaires said in a protest filed with the French Foreign Office.
The protest warned foreigners against buying objects of artistic or historic value taken from Poland by the Soviet authorities. If the Soviet Government tries to sell such objects abroad, buyers may later find they have no legal claim to their purchases, the Polish Government said.
