A special government agency, which will be called the “Department for Productivities of Jews,” has been established by the Polish Government. An official announcement will be made later this week.
The new department will assist in the rehabilitation and resettlement of those Jews who want to remain in Poland. It will be headed by Major W.M. Wrzoz and will be a section of the executive office of the President, to whom it will be directly responsible.
The government’s action follows representations by considerable numbers of Jews who wish to remain in Poland, but lack houses, Jobs and tools. The government hopes to carry out an extensive program of assistance for these persons.
The department’s activities will center largely on finding employment for Jews either in plants now operating or by turning over small shut-down factories to cooperative groups or by furnishing workers and artisans with tools.
A hint that assistance from Jews abroad, in terms of equipment and tools which can be utilized in the new program, would be welcome, is contained in the fact that the department will work closely with the Office of Jewish Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
