A sworn deposition describing another of the incredibly brutal assaults of the Nazi storm-troopers was made here today by the Polish-Jewish citizen Knispel, aged 55, who, with his three sons, has just escaped from Berlin.
At three A. M. on April 16, he swears, twenty Nazis broke into his house, beat him unconscious, and took his sons into “protective arrest.” The sons were released on the following day, after representations that they were Polish citizens, but Knispel was forced under threat of death to flee Berlin with them. His wife and their younger children remain in Berlin.
Knispel still bore marks of the Nazi beating and tortures. He was so frightened after his experience that he became dumb when he reached the Polish frontier. Unable to answer the questions of the Polish officials, he threw himself into their arms, crying with joy at having escaped alive from Germany.
