A memorandum specifying the great need which Polish Jewry is suffering was submitted to the Polish premier today by the Jewish National Council, a body representing Jewish Jewry. The Council enumerated the particular hardships under which the Jews are laboring and stated that the continuously falling income from relatives abroad, particularly from America, added to the difficulties of their position.
Declaring that the problem of saving the Polish Jews has now become a general state problem, since continuous appeals to Jews abroad diminishes Poland’s prestige and decreases her credit possibilities abroad, the Council added that the government shows no understanding of the problem and is not taking into account the seriousness of the situation, which, it is charged, the government has thus far ignored.
“The government”, says the memorandum, “must show initiative and must prepare a clear program that will lead to the abolition of these causes which have resulted in our present catastrophal position”.
