Inclusion of representatives of the Jews in Poland in the relief and rehabilitation agencies of the Polish Government was asked today by the American Federation for Polish Jews and the Representation of Polish Jewry to administer the specific and pressing needs of the remaining Jewish population in Poland The request was made in a memorandum submitted to Jan Kwapinski, head of the Polish delegation at the Council of the UNRRA, now in session in Atlantic City.
Emphasizing the morale-value of the participation of the recipients themselves in the administering of relief and rehabilitation, the memorandum proposes that the representation of Polish Jewry, consisting of Polish Jews now in the United States who were formerly acknowledged and official leaders in the Jewish Community in Poland, be recognized as the responsible representatives of the Jews in Poland until such time as Polish Jewry itself decides on the most desirable form of representation.
