Polish-Jewish circles here, although satisfied by the statements made by cabinet members in Warsaw condemning the anti-Jewish torroristic activities, today indicated that statements are not enough, and insisted that the Warsaw Government must embark upon a more active policy of ourbing anti-Somitic viclence.
Some Jewish leaders here demand that a warning be issued to the people in Poland telling them that the independence of Poland is threatened by the repcated anti- Jewish outbreaks. They point out that the terroristic activities of the anti-Semitic groups are not a new development, and they go so far as to declare that the wave of anti-Jewish terror in liberated Poland explains why the Nazi extermination of Jews from all parts of Europe took place on Polish soil.
“It is now clear that certain elements of the Polish nation shared in Hitler’s slaughter of the Jews,” one of the Jewish leaders here stated. “It is also clear that other elements in Poland are determined to keep the Jewish property which they stole with the aid of the Germans during the occupation period. Every Jew returning to Poland is looked upon by them as a potential challenge to their ‘right’ to the property of Jews who did not survive.”
The general opinion among Jewish leaders here is that the position of the surviving Jews in Poland will remain procarious as long as they are used as a pawn in the struggle between the reactionary elements and the Warsaw Government. Only storn measures on the part of the Warsaw authorities can bring the anti-Jewish excesses to an end, they stress.
