The Polish Government intends to send to America a combined delegation of Jewish and Polish representatives, merchants and artisans, with a view to raising a loan there for reconstruction work, the press reports to-day. In connection with this report, Jewish merchant circles here declare that if the Government does not immediately undertake definite measures to help to alleviate the Jewish situation by providing credits and decreasing taxation, thousands of Jewish business enterprises which are still managing to hold on will be compelled to close down this month, and an economic disaster will be unavoidable. Bankruptcies are foreseen in hundreds of cases, because practically no business has been done during the Passover season this year.
In Government quarters assurances are given that a new 150 million zloty public works plan will be adopted in ten days’time for the purpose of relieving unemployment. The Jews are not very optimistic about this measure, however, because of the notorious discrimination against Jews in employment on public works.
