One quarter of a million pounds of matzoth have been shipped by the Joint Distribution Committee to Asiatic Russia where 600,000 Polish Jewish refugees will receive them in time for Passover, Isaac Rubinstein, former chief rabbi of Vilna, yesterday told 600 Jewish leaders at the annual conference of the Council of Organizations of the United Jewish Appeal campaign.
The leaders attending the conference, which was held at the Hotel Commodore, represented more than 500,000 members of local Jewish fraternal, benevolent and landsmanschaften organizations. The conference adopted a resolution to inaugurate a special campaign to provide matzoth and other Passover necessities for Jewish populations which are dependent upon the United Jewish Appeal for aid and subsistence.
