A resolution expressing regret and protest against the inequalities and discriminations practiced against the Jews of Poland was adopted here today at a conference of delegates representing 25,000 Jews of Polish extraction now residing in Canada.
The resolution states that the Polish Jews of Canada feel keenly “the economic crisis as well as the political, educational and social inequalities that our brethren in Poland are at present subjected to. The system of taxation in particular is made more burdensome for our fellow Jews in Poland than for the rest of the population by being discriminated against by official or semi-official government representatives as well as by government legislation.
“We believe that such discriminations, inequalities, hardships and burdensome taxation imposed upon our fellow Jews is not with the official sanction or knowledge of the intelligent class of Polish people and the heads of the Polish administration. We believe that by bringing the state of affairs to the attention of government officials, amelioration of conditions will be brought about. We therefore request the consul general of Poland in Canada, who always gave friendly and sincere cooperation to the Polish Jews in Canada, to bring the attention of the home government the feelings of the Polish Jews of Canada in connection with the hardships practiced upon our fellow Jews in Poland.”
The Polish Jews of Canada are organizing an alliance to affiliate with the Federation of Polish Jews in the United States.
