The Washington Evening Star said today in an editorial that the after-effects of the June, Arab-Israel war were still being felt by the Jews of Poland and “anti-Semitism is likely to remain the order of the day in Poland as long as the men of the Kremlin deem it helpful to their ambitions in the Middle East.”

The editorial said that, despite intraparty strains caused by his policy, Gomulka, the Polish Communist chief, appeared to be in firm control of the situation. The newspaper commented that “reliable reports leave little doubt that the Warsaw regime–as distinct from the popular masses–has been following an anti-Semitic policy ever since the war’s end.”
