A delegation of the Union of Jewish Communities will leave for the United States soon in response to an invitation tendered by the World Jewish Congress.
The delegation will be headed by the Chief Rabbi of Poland, Dr. David Kahane, who is a colonel and chief Jewish chaplain in the Polish Army. Other members are M.B. Zilberberg, secretary general of the Union of Jewish Communities, Rabbi Trajatman of Wroclaw, formerly of Warsaw, S.P. Atlas, representative of the Mizrachi, and one representative of the Agudas Israel.
The delegation, which represents religious Zionist and orthodox Jewry, will report on the activities of the Jewish communities which represent a large section of the Jewish population not represented on the Central Jewish Committee.
Akiba Lewinski, representative of the Youth Aliyah department of the Jewish Agency, has arrived in Warsaw in connection with arrangements for the transfer of 2,000 children to France, pending their departure for Palestine. All Zionist groups are taking part in the selection of the children to be transferred, which has already started.
At the same time, the Union of Jewish Communities is arranging for the departure of 150 children to England, where they will be received by orthodox families under arrangements made by Dr. Solomon Schonfeld, director of the Chief Rabbi’s Emergency Council in London.
The Central Jewish Committee has declined to participate in either action. It has refused to surrender children from homes under its supervision in order to prevent their departure.
