Documents obtained by two Bonn public prosecutors from a Polish military mission in Berlin will be introduced into the trial here of 12 former SS guards of the Chelmno extermination camp where 180,000 Jews were killed during the Second World War, it was reported here today.
Testimony which was to have been presented by Gustav Sorgi, former inspector of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, on the techniques of gas van exterminations, will be postponed since the new Polish material also contains details on the same subject.
In testimony on wartime conditions in the Lodz Ghetto, former police inspector Guenther Fuchs, who is being detained in Hanover, said that, while in 1943 there were 170,000 Jews in the ghetto, only 70,000 Jews remained when the ghetto was liquidated in 1944.
