Deep regret at the death of Lord Balfour was expressed yesterday in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency by Tytus Filipowicz, Polish ambassador to the United States. Mr. Filipowicz said: “In Poland’s dark days before the War, Lord Balfour was ever a friend and kept the Polish question to the fore during the struggle.
“His efforts culminated in his signature to the Treaty of Versailles, recreating Poland. Polish citizens of the Jewish faith will also join in mourning the passing of the great British statesman for the additional reason that Lord Balfour pledged the support of the British government to the movement to establish a Jewish National Home in Palestine.”
