Polish Premier Wladislaw Sikorski, who on Saturday attended services for Poland in the Great Synagogue, today invited a Jewish delegation to participate in a ceremony marking the laying of a wreath for the Unknown Soldier in Paris.
Thanking Barons Eduard and Robert Rothschild as heads of the Jewish Consistory, and also leaders of the Federation of Polish Jews in France, Premier Sikorski said in a statement: “I considered it important to postpone all political conferences and participate in the synagogue memorial in order to manifest the Polish Government’s policy of equality for all citizens, irrespective of race and religion.”
A synagogue and a Catholic church have been demolished in the former Polish Corridor town of Tuchel, near Bydgoszcz, according to the Danzig Nazi newspaper Danziger Vorposten. The paper also reports that the approximately 140 Jews who resided in the town have fled.
