The Gdynia-America Line, a Polish shipping company today offered its steamer Polonia for the transfer of the remains of Dr. Theodor Herzl, the father of political Zionism, to Palestine. Dr. Herzl is now buried in Vienna and his remains will be transferred to Palestine in March.
The offer of the Gdynia-America Line was transmitted today to the Zionist Executive in Palestine for consideration. The administration of the line has given assurance that it will suitably decorate the steamer if the Executive will accept its offer.
The shipping of Herzl’s remains on the Polonia, which races between Constanza and Haifa, will make possible an arrangement whereby the body of Dr. Herzl will pass larger Jewish centers in Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and Rumania before being shipped from Constanza. The steamer also will stop at Salonica, Athens and Constantinople, to give Jewish communties in Greece and Turkey opportunities to pay respects to Herzl’s remains.
