Herbert Claiborne Poll revealed last night that he would appeal to President Roosevelt to restore him to the post of American representative on the United Nations War Crimes Commission as a result of approval yesterday by the House Appropriations Committee of a $25,000 fund to cover full American participation on the commission.
State Department spokesmen declined today to discuss the filling of the job until Congress actually makes the appropriation, but made it clear they believed Mr. Poll was out and Mr. Roosevelt would have to make a new appointment. Mr. Poll’s services on the commission were discontinued last month by the State Department with the explanation that the previous refusal of Congress to appropriate funds for this nation’s delegation had left it without means of keeping him on the job.
