THE PROVISIONAL BOARD OF POLISH JEWRY TODAY STRUCK BACK VIGOROUSLY AT THE UNION OF POLISH TRADERS FOR ITS RECENT DECISION TO PRESS FOR “POLONIZATION” OF COMMERCE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE JEWS.
THE BOARD, IN A RESOLUTION, SAID THE UNION’S ACTION, MEANING ELIMINATION AND DESTRUCTION OF JEWISH TRADERS MEANS OF LEGAL DISCRIMINATION, VIOLATED THE SPIRIT OF THE POLISH CONSTITUTION, WHICH GUARANTEES ALL CITIZENS THE RIGHT OF WORK AND THE POSSIBILITY OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
TO CONTINUE IN THE COURSE THE UNION HAS MAPPED, THE RESOLUTION DECLARES, MEANS UNDERMINING THE ECONOMIC FOUNDATION OF TRADE, BASED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF FREE TRADE, AND WILL LEAD TO WEAKENING OF THE ENTIRE ECONOMIC STRUCTURE. THE RESOLUTION REJECTS INDIGNANTLY “THE INSINUATIONS AND INSULTS AGAINST JEWS AND JEWISH TRADESMEN, INSPIRED BY THE SPIRIT OF COMPETITION, ENVY AND HATRED,” AND CALLS ON JEWISH MERCHANTS TO RESIST ACTS OF VIOLENCE AND FALSEHOOD.
