Rabbis David de Sola Pool and Stephen S. Wise have issued a joint appeal to the Jewish Community to observe Golden Rule Week which begins on Sunday and continues to December 18th, in the interests of the Golden Rule Foundation.
The appeal points out that the Jewish Community has in the past given generous support to the Golden Rule Foundation and that organizations such as the Hadassah School Luncheon Fund in Palestine have been among the beneficiaries of the funds raised by the Foundation.
During Golden Rule week, Americans are asked to eat the cheapest meals that can be devised and to give the money saved by the economy meals for the benefit of the hungry. The beneficiaries have been for the most part hungry children in the United States and abroad.
This year “it is planned to use the funds reaised for the amelioration of local conditions created by unemployment,” says the statement. “These conditions transcend all denominational limitations, and the Jews of America should share in this unsectarian and humane endeavor.”
