Members of the Ninth United Jewish Appeal Study Mission will be received by Pope Paul VI in a private audience tomorrow. Joseph Meyerhoff of Baltimore, UJA general chairman, will lead the group. Rabbi Herbert A. Friedman, executive vice-chairman, will act as spokesman at the audience.
The 120 members gathering here tomorrow have toured France, Austria, Morocco and Iran, studying Jewish needs and programs of the Joint Distribution Committee. They will report on their findings tomorrow. Two more briefing meetings are scheduled during the stay in Rome as guests of the JDC. At the briefings JDC officials will provide the mission members with a global review of Jewish needs and plans for the next year.
Other highlights of the visit to Rome will include a reception by American Ambassador Reinhardt, a memorial service in honor of the 300 Christian and Jewish Italian hostages murdered by the Nazis in 1944 and a dinner at the 16th Century Palazzo Ruspoli, with Baron Guy de Rothschild, president of the Central Jewish Welfare organization of France, as the guest speaker. The mission will report on the global Jewish needs at the annual UJA meeting in New York in December which will set the goals for the 1964 campaign.
