A “modus vivendi” on the racist question was reached by Pope Pius XI shortly before his death in an agreement with the Italian Government on several controversial issues, the New York Times reported today from Vatican City.
The Times correspondent, Camille M. Cianfarra, said reports of “a satisfactory solution” of the issues, which had been circulated for some time, were given substance by the announced intention of King Victor Emmanuel with the entire Royal Family, Premier Benito Mussolini with his Cabinet and all members of the Fascist Grand Council, to attend a requiem mass for the Pope next Friday.
