A Rome dispatch to the New York Times reported today that the Pope has received many appeals from Viennese Jews to intercede with Chancellor Hitler to prevent their deportation to the Lublin “reservation” in Nazi Poland. The dispatch voiced doubt as to the efficacy of such action since “the Holy See is having its own difficulties with Herr Hitler these days.”
