Port Chester Center to Mark Its Fifth Year

A week’s program in observance of the fifth anniversary of the Jewish Center, starting this Sunday, has been announced by center officials. The center building houses all Jewish organizations of the community.

Charles I. Miller is president and Louis M. Shanok, executive secretary, of the center.

The mayor of Port Chester and a number of New York and local speakers will talk at the initial banquet Sunday evening. Morris Panken is chairman of the occasion. Violin selections will be rendered by Harry Braun.

Monday will witness a sports program in the gymnasium, to be followed by dancing. Tuesday evening will be organization night, when discussions, led by E. J. Londow of the Jewish Welfare Board, will be held.

ENROLMENT DRIVE TO START

Yiddish night is scheduled for Wednesday and the following night will be known as community open forum night. Roger Baldwin is scheduled to speak.

Professor Alexander Litman will discourse on Maimonides at Friday night’s sermon. Junior night will be held on Saturday with movies for the children.

On Sunday evening, January 20, a dinner will be tendered workers and donor members of the center on the opening of the annual membership enrolment drive, of which Dr. Max K. Leeds is chairman.

During the week an exhibition of paintings by Saul Raskin, Matthew Kalmenoff, Nathan Hayman, Reuben Leaf and Martin Cohen will be held.

The center maintains the only Hebrew and Sunday schools in the Jewish community and in it are held High Holy Day services as well.
