Issuance of Portuguese transit visas was renewed today by consulates abroad following an interval of a few weeks during which the consulates were not permitted to issue any visas by order of the central authorities in Lisbon.
Portuguese transit visas are being issued by the consuls in Berlin and in Marseille to applicants who can prove that they have booked sailing through Lisbon for overseas countries. The vises are to be issued twelve days before sailing time, and only upon individual approval by the International Police in Portugal. Evidence must be produced that the passage has been booked on a specific steamer with a definite sailing date.
Marc Chagall, the famous artist, has arrived here from France and will leave shortly for the United States.
