A solution of the Jewish problem in North Africa has not as yet been reached, Prof. Selig Brodetsky, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews reported yesterday at a session of the Board. “The Board is maintaining close contact with the Foreign Office on this question, but satisfactory action has not yet been taken,” he stated.
The Jews throughout the world will welcome with gratitude President Roosevelt’s denunciation of Argentina’s suppression of the Yiddish press there which led to the lifting of the ban, Prof. Brodetsky said lauding the action of the President. He predicted that with increased German reverses there will come increased persecution of Jews in German-held territories. He paid special tribute to the Swedish Government for opening its doors to the Jews of Denmark, and pointed out that “the action of Sweden marks in a sense the beginning of a new development in international life.”
