Federal Judge Arthur J. Tuttle yesterday indicated that the $1,000,000 libel suit of Aaron Sapiro against Henry Ford and the Dearborn Publishing Company will go to trial Sept. 14. The case was on call for the present term, but a delay was requested by Senator James A. Reed of Missouri of defense counsel, who desired more time to obtain depositions.
Formal demands to Henry Ford, E. G. Leibold, vice-president of the Dearborn Publishing Company, W- J. Cameron, Editor of the “Dearborn Independent,” to the Ford Motor Company and the Dearborn Publishing Company, asking for retraction of the libelous statements which appeared in the “Dearborn Independent” charging the existence of an “international Jewish conspiracy” to exploit American agriculture, were served by Aaron Sapiro, Chicago lawyer and noted national authority on cooperative marketing of farm products, were made on Jan. 7, 1925.
It was stated that if the retraction was not forzhcoming, Mr. Sapiro, who was attacked in the series of articles, would enter suit against Mr. Ford and the others for the sum of $1,000,000 damages.
The suit was filed at Detroit on March I, 1925.
