Technology transcended politics today at the International Air Show at Hanover where the Israeli display attracted political enemies as well as friends. Elkana Galli, a spokesman for Israel Aircraft industries, reported that its exhibit was visited by the Egyptian and Jordanian military attaches who showed “great interest in all the company’s products.” Elkana said they treated the Arabs as potential customers.
Soviet experts meanwhile have shown considerable interest in an electronic device known as “Elta” which is manufactured by Israel Aircraft Industries. The Russians made a detailed study of the instrument and also praised demonstration flights by Israel’s first nationally produced aircraft, the Commodore executive jet and the Arava commercial transport.
Al Schwimmer, managing director of Aircraft Industries, said at a press conference that his firm sold $150 million worth of equipment during the last fiscal year for a $5 million profit after taxes. He said that as soon as matters of financing were settled, Israel would sell 30 Arava planes. He did not identify the buyers.
