sion that the entire rabbinate should concur publicly in its pronouncement. At the assembly, held Monday night and marked by considerable argument and shedding of tears, it was overwhelmingly decided to proclaim the ban. The date set for the “issur” to become effective is definitely next Monday.
It is estimated that once the prohibition goes into effect, it will be observed to the extent of at least eighty per cent. of consumers of kosher poultry in the Greater New York area.
And so an industry which almost from its inception has been plagued with difficulties of one sort or another enters what may well be the most crucial period in its history. Whether it will come through the crisis in which it will find itself during the ensuing week or go down to complete disintegration and chaos is the question uppermost in the minds of observers.
That a strong hand is needed to save the industry from itself becomes daily more apparent.
