A difference of opinion seems to exist between the British government and the governments of France and Italy concerning the rights of foreign consuls in Palestine, it was learned today.
The rights of foreign consuls in Palestine, having their origin to some extent in the Turkish capitulations, are intended to be curtailed. It was stated that the French and Italian governments have called attention to the proposed ordinances through their embassies in London, and have demanded a revision.
A note to the British Foreign Office concerning the claim of Mavrommatis, the Greek engineer, was presented by the Greek Minister here on the instructions of his government.
The Greek government supports the claim of Engineer Mavrommatis for compensation of alleged losses incurred on his concession for the water and electricity supply of Jerusalem. The validity of this concession was disputed by the British Colonial Office, but was recognized by the International Court of Justice at The Hague.
