A chair in Hebrew will be created soon at the University of Prague, it was announced at a reception tendered by the Israel-Czech Friendship Loague in honor of Edward Goldstuecker, Czechoslovak Minister to the Jewish state. The League said it will present a Hebrew library to the Prague University.
Addressing guests at the reception, Mr. Goldstuecker said he came to Israel to “facilitate the promotion of political, economic and cultural relations between Czechoslovakia and Israel and to enlighten the Czech people on Israel developments.” Dr. Mordecai Eliashiv, head of the East European division of the Israel Foreign Ministry, lauded Czechoslovakia for “her favorable attitude to mass immigration to Israel.”
The 100th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Masaryk, first President of Czechoslovakia, was marked yesterday with a memorial celebration at Kfar Masaryk, the Israel colony named for him. Minister Goldstuecker attended the event.
