In view of reports of possible anti-Jewish violence during the forthcoming general elections, Adolf Berman, former Jewish partisan leader and member of the Polish National Council, is touring towns in Lower Silesia where Jews reside to make certain that adequate precautions are taken to prevent outbreaks.

Local conditions in the new Jewish communities were described to Berman at mass meetings in Wroclaw, Salbrzych, Rychbach, Lielaws and Legnica. At Wroclaw and Stettin the governors, Stanislaw Piaskowski and Col. Leonard Borkowicz, respectively, assured Berman that precautions had been taken to protect the Jews during the elections and the campaign preceding them.

Following repeated attacks upon Jews in Zakopane, near the Polish-Slovak border the authorities have imposed a curfew on the town and the surrounding area from 7 p.m. to 6 a. am. In the neighboring town of Novy Targ the curfew has been set from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Meanwhile, skirmishes continue in the vicinity of Zakopane between underground bands and the police.
