Israeli Premier Golda Meir has called on leaders in the American Jewish community to help Israel achieve a “genuine and lasting peace” in the Middle East. In a cable congratulating Dr. William A. Wexler. president of B’nai B’rith, on his election as chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Mrs. Meir expressed confidence in Dr. Wexler’s efforts to “continue to inspire Jewish solidarity with Israel in her struggle for peace and security.”
“These days, perhaps more than ever, Israel is facing increased harassment on her frontiers and outside attempts to advocate arrangements which amount to less than genuine and lasting peace, which Israel seeks and deserves,” Mrs. Meir said. “May your presidency, with the efforts of your colleagues, help to advance test goals,” she said.
