Absolute peace and order must be re-established at the University of Debreczin within twenty-four hours, else the University will be closed for a fortnight and the rioters punished by the government.
Premier Julius Gomboes ordered the Minister of Education to deliver this ultimatum today to the University authorities. This is the answer which the government is making to the anti-Semitic riots which have been continuous at the University in recent weeks and yesterday’s announced boycott unless the Jewish students are cleared out.
Simultaneously the government despatched a special investigator to probe the complaints of the Jewish students regarding conditions at the University.
A police guard is stationed around the University campus and all anti-Semitic agitators who are not students, are being apprehended.
