Premier Pierre Mauroy Sunday night pledged that his government will fight with the utmost energy the slightest manifestation of racism or anti-Semitism. Mauroy, who was inaugurating a new Jewish communal center in the city of Lille, said “Western Europe and France have learned the lesson of the past. We must all act at the first symptom of anti-Semitism as slight as it may be.” The community center, built with the help of the government and the city of Lille, will serve the needs of Lille’s 3,000 Jews and another 25,000 who live close to the city.
