The “Romance of a People” which was seen by close to one million people in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Detroit, will be presented in a revised version on the stage of the Roxy Theatre beginning Friday, September 7th, it was announced yesterday by Howard S. Cullman, head of the Roxy Theatres Corporation.
Originally presented at the Chicago Century of Progress Exposition on Soldiers Field, “The Romance of a People” is a chronicle of 4,000 years of the story of mankind as reflected in Jewish history. It established a world theatrical record for attendance when it was shown for twenty-one performances at the Kingsbridge Armory, the Bronx, last year.
“The Roxy Theatre management decided to arrange for the presentation of “The Romance of a People” because of an insistent public demand for a second New York showing of the spectacle that made theatrical history,” Mr. Cullman said yesterday. “I am very happy that we have been able to obtain the same production staff under the personal direction of Meyer W. Weisgal who conceived ‘The Romance of a People’ as originally presented at the Century of Progress Exposition in July, 1933.”
