The Festival of Passover this year was marked in this city, for the first time in 2,000 years, by the presence of the elected head of a sovereign Jewish State.
Itzhak Ben Zvi, second president of Israel, received more than 1,500 people who came to his modest apartment here to give him Passover greetings. The visitors included delegations from communities throughout the country.
He observed the second day of Passover by making the traditional pilgrimage to Mt. Zion. He was accompanied by members of the Jewish Agency and prominent personalities.
