President Clinton called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat to deliver the same speeches during appearances together before Israeli and Palestinian audiences. “It would help the Palestinians to see Yasser Arafat saying the same thing to the Israelis he says to the Palestinians. It would help the Israelis” as well, Clinton said in an interview with Israel Television. Clinton also said his scheduled December visit to the Gaza Strip should not be construed as an endorsement of the Palestinian goal of statehood, noting that the policy of the United States is not to “take a position on any final-status issue.”
