President Clinton thanked Palestinian leaders in the Gaza Strip for rejecting the anti-Israel clauses in the Palestinian charter. His comments came after members of the Palestine National Council and other Palestinian groups jumped to their feet and raised their hands to show the president that they no longer seek Israel’s destruction. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Palestinian representatives had provided the vote he had sought.
