President Eisenhower to Name New Commissioner of Immigration

President Eisenhower will announce soon the appointment of retired Lt. Gen. Joseph M. Swing as Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization, a position which includes responsibility for administering the McCarran-Walter Act. The intended appointment was revealed today by White House sources. Gen. Swing will succeed Argyle R. Mackey who became commissioner in 1951. The post of immigration commissioner is the only top-ranking position in the Justice Department that has not yet been filled with an Eisenhower pointee.
