High Ideals of Public Service Animate Order, He Says in Communication to President Alfred M. Cohen

The name of Herbert Hoover was added to the list of the Presidents of the United States who have commended the aims and work of the Independent Order Bn’ai B’rith, the Jewish fraternal organization with a membership of close to 70,000 in the United States.

The headquarters of the I. O. B. B. here made public today the text of a communication addressed by President Hoover to Alfred M. Cohen, president of the B’nai B’rith, in which the President of the United States lauds the high ideas of public service manifested in the Order’s activities. The message reads:

“HON. ALFRED M. COHEN, PRESIDENT, INDEPENDENT ORDER B’NAI B’RITH

“My dear Mr. Cohen:

“It is a pleasure to bear witness to the high ideals of public service that animate the Independent Order of B’nai B’rith, and to the practical intelligence with which its broad policies of social service and philanthropy are carried into execution. Its usefulness, not only in the United States, but also in Europe and the Near East, is everywhere recognized with gratitude; while in this country I would especially commend its example in working for mutual magnanimity, understanding and cooperation between all races and all creeds.

“Yours faithfully.

“Herbert Hoover.”
