Rosh Hashanah greetings were sent this weekend to the Confederation of Jewish Communities of Brazil by Brazilian President Humberto Castelo Branco and Carlos Lacerda, Governor of the State of Guanabara, of which Rio de Janeiro is the capital city.
President Castelo Branco requested the Confederation to pass on his greetings “to all Brazilians of the Jewish faith on the eve of the beginning of the New Year 5726.” Gov. Lacerda declared in his message that “the State as well as the people of Rio de Janeiro owe much to the Jewish community, which has contributed so much to our progress with devotion, love and intelligence.”
