Samuel Bronfman, president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, was honored here tonight at a dinner of the United Jewish Appeal at which $500,000 was raised in contribution for the New York UJA drive.
Mr. Bronfman was presented a silver-bound Bible, printed and handcrafted in Israel and containing a special dedication citing the goes of honor’s “devotion to his faith and his people, and his inspired leadership and selfless generosity,” Messages of congratulations to Mr. Bronfman and appreciation for his activities in support of a wide variety of humanitarian and civic causes were received at the dinner from a number of prominent persons, including Prime Minister Moshe Sharett of Israel and Governor Averell Harriman.
