Mr. John L. Bernstein, President of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, appeared before the Senate Immigration Committee today with a proposal that a provision be made in the immigration law to the effect that those aliens who arrived here and were turned back in recent months, be admitted on their original visas, thus dispensing with the necessity of getting new certificates Such a provision would eliminate the great hardship involved in starting their applications all over gain.
He also urged that a provision be made in the new immigration bill for the exemption of close relatives of citizens and declarants; and that the time of validity of immigration certificates be extended from four months to one year. He also asked that the requirement of a certificate of good conduct be eliminated because of the difficulty entailed in obtaining such personal certificates by refugees who are fare from their native country.
