President Habib Bourghiba received in audience representatives of Tunisian Jewry who came to pay their respects to him and to thank him for the aid granted by the Government. The President asked his visitors to convey to the Jewish population his understanding for their internal problems. He expressed the hope that understanding will continue to prevail in the relations between Tunisian Moslems and Jews.
The municipal authorities at Sousse have been directed by Tunisian President Habib Bourghiba to allocate a special subsidy of 500 dinar to the Jewish community for the support of Jewish religious education and worship. President Bourghiba acted in response to an appeal sent to him by Isaac Hayat, president of the Jewish Community of Sousse.
