President Juan Peron of Argentina today invited Ricardo Dubrovsky, president of the DAIA — central Jewish representative body in this country — as well as the leaders of the pro-Peron organization, “Israelite Argentina.” to center with him. During a conference which lasted one hour, in which Foreign Minister Juan Bramilgia also participated, Peron told the Jews that he wishes to prevent the growth of “anti-Semitic germs” in Argentina.
A spokesman for the deputation told Peron that several Jews have been detained for months in Argentina as illegal immigrants and also raised the question of widening immigrant opportunities for Jews. Peron immediately instructed his officials to release the detained Jews and grant them the necessary papers. He also promised the delegation that he would legalize the status of those Jews in Argentina who do not possess the required identification papers, and advised the representatives of “Israelite Argentina” to look into this matter.
Peron also authorized granting Arieh Chill, Jewish Agency representative in this country, a more permanent states than that of tourist, which was the classification under which he was admitted to the country.
