President Coolidge in his message to Congress today again recommended legislation for modification of the immigration law to enable the uniting of separated families. However, he did not specify the exact character of the legislation favored by him. The President made reference to this subject under the topic of his message entitled “The Wage Earner.”

“While restrictive immigration has been adopted in part for the benefit of the wage earner and in its entirety for the benefit of the country,” the President declared, “it ought not to cause a needless separation of families and dependents from their natural source of support contrary to the dictates of humanity.”

It was learned that the Labor Department is expected to make specific recommendations shortly for limited modification of the present law in regard to the admission of certain relatives to citizens.
