The United Hungarian Jews of America today sent a telegram to President Truman urging his personal intervention with the Hungarian Government in behalf of the Jews who are being expelled from Budapest. The appeal suggested that Truman should secure Hungary’s agreement to permit unwanted Jewish citizens to emigrate from the country.
The telegram was dispatched following a mass meeting, attended by 1,100 Hungarian Jews in this city, at which a resolution was adopted demanding that Hungary permit Jews to emigrate to Israel. The meeting protested Hungary’s deportation of middle-class Jews from the larger cities and expressed thanks to the Israel Government for its efforts in behalf of the deportees.
